Trends in Alternative Medicine Use in the US

More people are becoming familiar with and using energy medicine. For many people it is seen as more compatible with their values, world view, spiritual/religious philosophy or beliefs

4 of every 10 Americans use some form of alternative medicine.

Problems with lifestyle are not new. In ancient Chinese writings, the following conversation is recorded:

“Yellow Emperor – I have heard that in ancient times the people lived to be over a hundred years and yet they remained active and did not become decrepit in their activities.  But nowadays people reach only half of that age and yet become decrepit and failing.  Is it because the world changes from generation to generation? Or is it that mankind is becoming negligent?

Ch’I Po answered:  “In ancient times those people who understood Tao patterned themselves upon the Yin and the Yang and lived in harmony.  There was temperance in eating and drinking.  Their hours of rising and retiring were regular and not disorderly and wild.  By these means the ancients kept their bodies united with their souls, so as to fulfill their allotted span completely.”

Women are particularly affected by these lifestyle changes for several reasons:

  • Job and professional demands high, competitive environment.
  • Home responsibilities continue.
  • Having and raising children.
  • Frequent histories of sexual abuse.
  • Emphasis on appearance/weight leads to consumption of foods with little nutritive/health building value.

The sequelae of our modern fast paced lifestyle are fatigue, stress, poor sleep, exhaustion, feeling overwhelmed, feelings of depression, anxiety and use of stimulants leading to further exhaustion, and use of illegal drugs.

The Energy Approach to Health and Disease

“ The superior physician helps before the early budding of the disease… The inferior physician begins to help when destruction has already set in.”

  • Importance of a normal flow of an adequate amount of energy
  • Optimal interaction of man and his natural/social environment
  • Inseparable nature of body and mind
  • Focus on process and function rather than structure

Therapeutic Goals

  • Restore normal balance and flow.
  • Individualization.
  • Focus on enhancing the body’s endogenous resistance (homeostatic reserve) to disease.
  • Less emphasis on specific causal factors.

Comparing Energy Medicine with Conventional

Conventional medicine uses biochemistry as its basis. The physiology of the human body has been studied extensively and dissected to the most intricate level. And yet physiologic change based on biochemistry is limited to the speed of chemical reactions.

Energy medicine, on the other hand, is not bound to the chemical reactions of physiology. Energy medicine has no bounds.  It can be used to completely heal something biologically simple, like a skin rash or GERD, or it can be used so deep in the body that it can reach the spirit. It can be used to heal the trauma of experiences the person has had in the distant past.

A great comparison is that conventional medicine works like a stick of dynamite (chemical reaction) while energy medicine works like an atomic bomb (energy).

In the underlying pages, four forms of energy medicine are presented. These are just introductory descriptions.  For a more comprehensive presentation, you could consider purchasing the DVD’s, or join Dr. Cheek on a webinar in the future.
