So the first thing to think about to start working back to health is what you put into your body. In order to detoxify naturally, the body must be alkaline. The usual pH of the blood is 7.45. Seven is neutral. Above seven is alkaline and below seven is acidic. The standard American diet, SAD to those of us in health care, is highly acidic. As long as you eat acidic foods and drink acidic drinks, the body will have to store those acids and the toxins in the food. The body tries to excrete excess acids but the kidneys, the organ for acid-base balance, can only excrete a certain amount of acids each day. And they must be excreted in the form of neutralized salts. In order to neutralize the excess acids, the body must draw from its stores of magnesium and calcium. The draw of calcium comes from the bones and teeth. When I see teens or 20 year olds with false teeth, I know how they have eaten over their years. Soda is the worse contributor to this destruction. The pH of soda is 3.2. Imagine the tradeoff the body has to make to neutralize that. Each number from 3 to 7 is actually 100 x, not 1 x.
Scientific investigation on what happens at the cellular level with an acidic diet is not something sought after by the modern scientific community. Instead, they would rather investigate medicines that add to the acidity and do nothing for health, because that’s where the money is. The government doesn’t want to investigate the evil acidic foods cause because most of the American economy is based on selling acidic foods. And also, remember the government doesn’t want you to be healthy. They want you to spend your money on insurance, doctor’s visits, medications, and then die young. Now, when you investigate the alkaline diet, you will find conflicting information. That is because of the dearth of scientific investigation. In the beginning, acidity or alkalinity was determined by burning a standard weight of each food in a crucible, turning it to the residual ash, and then measuring the acidity/alkalinity of the residue. This, however, is not the equivalent of what goes on in the body. Today, a better way of estimating acidity/alkalinity is done virtually. Computers are programmed with what happens to a food substance to break it down to its absorbable parts. Then the computer calculates the residual acid-base. Even though this isn’t exact for every body as well, it is at least a better guess. The final judge, however, is your own body. By checking your pH of your saliva and urine with pH paper, you can determine what each food does in your body. This is really only necessary to do with those foods that are listed one way in one source, and another way in a different source—like tomatoes. After a consumption of only the substance you are testing, check the acidity of your saliva and urine 6 hours later, and see what direction it moved.
If you want to get healthy again, you must alkalinize your body. You need pH paper. Check your saliva and urine with the paper before breakfast, lunch, dinner, and before bed for 2 weeks. That should give you a baseline average. Then you can check 1-2x/day, at random times. The pH of your saliva should be 7.5-8.5. Saliva is supposed to be alkaline for the effectiveness of amylase, the enzyme that starts working on your starches in your food as you chew. The pH of your urine is usually 1 point lower than your saliva. A very low number, like 5, indicates a very acidic diet. A pH higher than your saliva indicates kidney insufficiency, or even possibly early kidney failure. Conventional doctors don’t consider the pH of your urine at all in their evaluation. They are usually more interested in the presence of blood, leucocytes or nitrites, evidence of infection.
